Draw Artistic Inspiration from Both Within and Without- Wang Da Peng Sculpture Creation

Wang Da Peng's creative look is inextricably linked to his nearly 40 years of experience. He has held a passion for painting since childhood, although family do not support him in drawing, he still looked for the opportunities to touch the art, either illustrations from the reading or world map is his learning object. Finally, he began to develop his basis of creation from calligraphy, and then coupled with the western painting awareness and training by high school.

Entering the sculpture department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts is the first turning point on Wang Da Peng's path of painting. Sculpture is a real form in space, it’s three-dimensional, and moreover, the feeling of real touch of object conversion is the reason why he gave up painting to study sculpture.

During the study in CAFA, he learned anatomy of sculpture and laid a strong foundation of it. In sculpture, if there is no a well-knit basic skill then get into the artistic creation too early, is just like wild-cursive only leave emotional expression but lose the ability to express feelings that could infect viewers.

After graduating from CAFA, Wang Da Peng taught in Jade Sculpture School, jade carving is regarded as very high difficulty in Chinese craftsmanship, and the delicate work of jade carving has a profound influence on Wang Da Peng’s creative concept.

For him, the restriction is freedom, he always find the exit by stimulate life from the limit; he unearthed his advantages and characteristics by studying of Western painting, Sculpture, and Jade craving, the accumulation of those is reflected in each his work.

Wasteland and trees are the backboards of Wang Da Peng's growth process, which makes him have a cordial observation of nature. He believes that the power of beauty in animals entraining unfamiliar mystery, this mystery is to create the atmosphere. In Wang Da Peng's works, we can see the line of calligraphy and the shape of Western sculpture combined with the animal image; the type of jade carving and the color of Western painting blended, quietly made the animal become anthropomorphic, so that the viewers could easily resonate with the sculpture.

Wang Da Peng believes that the reproduction is not what art should yearning for, only when art can leave the space to viewer to imagine is the most beautiful thing in overall.
