Chang, Yung-Tsun, an experimental practitioner of Taiwan avant-garde art during 1980- 1990s. Considered as bold, fearless and full of curiosity, the adventurous personality traits vary his artistic performance from painting, installation device, dance, poetry, community development to social movement. The towering “Ink Forest” and a numerous “Ink Installations” display in Art Central HK are both extension of “Ink Transformation” which operated since 1984; by the use of conceptual splicing, the Western 50’s automatic techniques were applied to Chinese traditional art paper. The combination of paper and arrangement materials opened the era of abstract ink installations in the 80s, thus driving force behind the first generation of installation art in Taiwan.

Chen Chien-Fa, a preacher of ink and wash, dedicated himself to the traceability of traditional Chinese painting and has won numerous awards. Focus on the connection between the aesthetic of link and spiritual world, improving the skill of presentation to pursuit precision. Concentrate his attention on Chinese painting for decades, the accumulation of his painting background stimulate his avant-garde experimental ambition, seeking the spiritual pursuit in contemporary ink with reverse thinking. The shades of water color and the blank-leaving that tradition ink and wash attached have been replaced by the touches that require highly control and precise strokes. The combinations of symbols in Western pop culture, classical images in Eastern painting and a variety of opposing images formed Chen Chien-Fa’s own enchanting world outlook, the skin of the West and the blood of the East.
